Industrial circulating water loops run at high cycles of concentration, so scale, corrosion and biological load all build faster than a manual dosing round can correct.
The Operating Reality
A plant loop feeds corrosion inhibitor, scale inhibitor and biocide into a cooling circuit serving process exchangers, compressors and utility cooling. Evaporation concentrates dissolved solids continuously.
Why Manual Dosing Falls Short
Because concentration moves continuously, a fixed manual dose under-feeds at peak and over-feeds at trough. Automatic dosing tracks make-up and blowdown and adjusts, cutting chemical waste and improving corrosion protection by a wide margin.
How Automatic Chemical Dosing Fits
- Dosing logic uses pH, ORP and conductivity signals with a control error under ±5%, and learns the water-quality pattern of the specific loop over time.
- Twelve chemical classes are supported, so inhibitor, dispersant and biocide can be run from one skid.
- Reported field results include chemical cost savings above RMB 800,000 per year on large loops, alongside a reduction of inspection rounds from 4 per day to roughly 0.2 per day.
Selection Checklist
- Define the control signal first (pH, ORP, conductivity or flow-proportional) before sizing the pump.
- Size the metering pump to the lowest expected dose with margin, not to the peak dose.
- Confirm chemical compatibility of wetted parts (316L, PVC, PVDF) with every product to be fed.
- Provide containment, leak detection and dry-running protection in the dosing room design.
- Integrate the skid with PLC, DCS or remote telemetry so dose is visible in the control room.
