Oman’s coast runs hot and humid through summer, and much of its heavy cooling uses seawater. For power, oil and gas, and data centres, cleaning has to run continuously without a shutdown.
The Operating Reality
Coastal plants and data centres cool condensers and process exchangers on cooling towers or once-through seawater circuits, with high biological load and chloride-rich water.
Why It Matters Here
Seawater brings heavy biological fouling and chloride corrosion at once, while humid heat keeps tower water inside the 25-45 C growth window for much of the year. Each 1 C of end-difference adds about 4% compressor work at peak demand.
Local Conditions That Drive Fouling
- Seawater cooling carries high biological load and chloride, so biofilm and corrosion arrive together and need continuous cleaning plus dosing.
- Coastal humidity keeps tower water in the 25-45 C growth window most of the year, so biological fouling is a permanent load.
- Oil, gas and data-centre cooling run continuously, so cleaning cannot wait for a maintenance window and end-difference loss is expensive.
How Automatic Tube Cleaning (ATCS) Fits
- Sponge balls (DN100-500 compatible, 0.1 mm oversize) circulate every chiller cycle, sweeping tubes with no shutdown.
- End-difference is held near ~1.2 °C instead of drifting to 3 °C+, avoiding the ~4% per 1 °C compressor penalty.
- Continuous sweeping removes the biofilm layer (up to ~300× more insulating than a clean tube) rather than reacting after a deposit forms.
- Systems are sized to tube count and metallurgy — titanium, copper-nickel, stainless and carbon steel all supported.
